Today is sorta like a big deal for me. It is gonna go down in history as the most embarrassing day of my life. Venue: Oshodi. Incase u didn’t hear me well, I said OSHODI.
This morning, I woke up feeling fly, picked out my outfit and went about my business. I wore Ankara pants, a net blouse( which I can proudly say I made myself) Yes I be designer in training, wore a spaghetti top and a black strapless la senza bra (see me giving u details o, well you need to know trust me) then I wore white lace panties (sorry I don’t co-ordinate pant and bra, who get time?).
Well in the afternoon, I got into an Oshodi bound bus and I felt my bum was making direct contact with the bus seat. I calmly put my hand to check and yes u guessed right, sokoto had ripped exposing my white pant. The bus was scanty so I had the entire back row to myself. I started thinking “What would Jesus do?” I kid. I was petrified. I was like “in broad daylight?” Is this how my bride price will just go like that? So I decided to improvise. I unhinged my spaghetti top (yes unhinged, I can’t find another oyinbo jare) I dragged it down to cover my ass (excuse my french) and I had only the strapless bra on under the net top. I looked down at my mammaries, I looked like a glorified obesere dancer(you dunno obesere omo rapala? Google him). Bus conductor started salivating and almost hyper ventilating (YES at the sight of my mammaries, I say SO), he kept sending his condolences on my torn trouser and smiling sheepishly. Suddenly he asked if I was on bbm, I swear if I was near d door of d bus, I woulda fallen off at high speed out of shock. I smiled back sweetly and said NO. He said what of Facebook? Twitter? I said NO again. Yes he is the conductor, I handed him my bus fare so I should know. He took a last chance and asked for my phone number, I replied WHY? And he couldn’t for the life of him, come up with an answer, so he got no digit. *shrugs*
The plan was that when I alighted at oshodi, I buy a pashmina, wrap it around my waist and wear my spaghetti back. Simple abi? (WRONG). For starters, it seemed like the “god” of pashmina was on leave, I kept walking and walking about oshodi half naked with no scarf in sight.
You need to see lecherous men starring at me. Soundtrack in my head was Wizkid and Kcee’s Pullover. Who would blame them na, shebi na me decide to flash all of Oshodi my bobby. Trust yoruba women, throwing me bad eye, some blatantly asked why I was shamelessly dressed. I calmly explained my situation and they pointed me in the direction to get a pashmina.
After checking several places, I finally saw a woman who claimed to have but she said it was a thousand naira. I went “Whaaaaaatttt” you gotta be ****ing me (insert swear word here). A woman like me wants to take advantage of my situation by inflating the price of a bloody scarf? I let her know my disappointment. Kia Kia she said Oya bring 300 naira. I waited in her stall and she went to get it, trust lecherous area boys, milling around getting a eyeful of my precious breasts. E pain me oh. But that didn’t last long sha as the woman returned with a black pashmina that I tied round my waist, paid and Voila, I was decent again even tho I looked like a hippie with a scarf round my yansh.
Lesson learnt: Never leave home without a scarf.
And like my friend Bunmi said, get over it, these people won’t even recognise you tomorrow. I have taken that advice and decided to chuck it up to “one of those things”
And that was another day in the life of this Fabulous Osi Princess. Thanks for stopping by. Olayimika Bamidele reporting for Sumptuous TV.
I have loads and loads of quotes, from inspirational ones to yoruba proverbs and a bunch of smart stuff I have seen on social media. I am going to share a few with you.
“If life deals you crazy cards, no worry. Na your PAPA get CASINO”
“Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out”// I Corint 10:13
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”
“Igba kan nlo, igba kan nbo, enikan o le lo ile aiye gbo” // Life is in Phases.
“Oru o mo eni owo” // No respectable person should be out in the dead of the night.
Those are the ones that readily come to mind. Thanks for reading.
Hi people, its day 10. Slow and steady wins the race right? One food, one beverage I could live on the rest of my life? That’s hard seeing as I am not a “food” fan, I am more of a sweets/fast food girl.
But in the name of eating healthy I will go with pasta and veggies and my choice beverage would be water and that’s realistically speaking. If I choose soda for d rest of my life, I would end up with a sticky throat and permanent sweetness in my taste buds. No I will pass. That’s me and day 10.
See you on the sunny side.
Oh well, pet peeves. Lemme warn u first, I am slightly neurotic and my pet peeves stem from someone else in my personal space.
I hate loud chewing sounds.
You know that sound when people burst bubble wraps, I hate it.
Minimal physical contact please, thank you.
Do not touch my face.
Touch my hair without permission and u get sucker punched.
I love you but cannot burst your pimple.
I do not share flip flops, ever!!!
Do not get into my bed after I have laid it, it will get warm and make me uncomfy, I do not like.
Chaos is the new order, my room may be a mess but its my mess, I know where everything is, please don’t try to “tidy” it up, Gracias.
I will rather give it out than share.
Now these are few of my issues, lemme stop here before u certify me a freak. Hahahahahaha
Do I read? Absolutely, its my life force, it keeps me sane these days. Books, magazines, cereal boxes, just name it. Novels are my favourite though. I like the way they take u away, far away to idyllic, beautiful places. Well written books help u optimise your mind. You realize there is no limit to where your mind can take you.
My number 1, numero uno, all star writer will be *drumroll* DANIELLE STEEL!!!! She is my spirit mother, she just doesn’t know it. I know loads of people love her and connect with her books but we have a connection. She is THE BUSINESS. She makes me laugh, cry, smile, hope, believe, trust and everything (now I am making her sound like Jesus) I love her, hope u can tell that. Her style of writing; timeless. The stuff she writes about; so real and relatable. That is the hallmark of writing for me. FINE THINGS, THE KISS, ACCIDENT, ZOYA, FULL CIRCLE are few of my favourite books. If you haven’t read any or all of them, please do.
Holla, I am back again. Today’s choice is a bit complex for me. I love music, I love several genres. Music happens to be in phases for me so I don’t have an all time fave band. My love for a couple of Nigerian artistes however has stayed ever green. I would love to hear the legendary King Sunny Ade or Onyeka Onwenu sing at my wedding. (That woman is all shades of fabulous by the way). Her Ankara print jackets, to die for. Tiwa Savage and 2face Idibia. If I have all these people at my wedding, be rest assured u are gonna see a fainting bride. Thinking bout it sef, I have started hyper ventilating.
So that’s it, my all time favourite musicians
Hiiiii, I know its been a bit and I have been totally slacking on my 30 day challenge. Well, come hell or high waters, this challenge is gonna happen, it will just have to extend into november.
Today’s post is about 5 of the places I want to visit. There are loaaaddsss of them. Even though I hate travelling, there are a lot of places in the world I wish I could teleport into. Hope that happens soonish.
First stop is Ogbunike Caves in Anambra, South East Nigeria. Heard bout it for the first time in a telecom ad on tv and I have been fascinated since, the way the caves were described gave me an eerie feeling. Now that is one place I would love to experience.
Number 2 will be London. Why? To see d Queen. Hahahaha!! Well, not see the queen perse but just because. I apparently don’t have a valid reason for that one.
Third stop will be Athens, Greece. I want to feel Zeus, Apollo, Hercules. Greek mythology is simply amazing and I can’t wrap my head around a quarter of it. A visit will surely help.
Mexico: I am gonna blame Mario Puzo and mexican soap’s for this one. I wanna see d people, they are absolutely gorgeous on tv, I would love to see them in person.
Italy: this is the 5th stop and I am only here for one thing, spaghetti and meatballs. I want to taste Pasta, tomato sauce and meatballs; italian style gan gan
Curiosity is my main reason for wanting to see all of these places. Hopefully it happens sometime in my near future. Thanks for stopping by.
Hi again, The challenge today actually states the meaning behind your “tumblr” name and since I no get tumblr account, I decided to improvise.
My twitter handle is @Yinkasumptuous. Its a fusion of my birth name “Yinka” short form of “Olayinka” which means “I am surrounded by wealth” and “Sumptuous” which “means delicious, lavish and expansive”. Nickname was given by my friend Tosin, that was his own version of fat. Of all my nicknames, I like that one and it has worked its way into all of my social media accounts.
And that is the meaning of my twitter name. See ya, same time, same station, tomorrow. Lol. Byeeee
